DATA PROTECTION & PRIVACY AT INTERNATIONAL FILM SCHOOL MAURITIUS (IFSM)
International Film School Mauritius is subject to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The policies below explain when and why International Film School Mauritius (“we”, “our”, “us”) collects personal information about you and how it is processed. We aim to be clear about data collection, storage, usage and your rights and to assure you that we would not use your data in a way you would not want or expect us to. INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS

Right to Be Informed
You have the right to be informed when and why we collect personal information and how it is processed. You also have the right to be informed about data storage, access, sharing, and retention. All of these areas are covered in the various policies linked above.

You have the right to reuse data held by us for your own purposes (for example when applying to study at another higher education provider). COOKIES
Cookies are small text files which are placed on your computer’s hard drive to help us monitor the use of our website and provide access to certain features. A cookie does not identify the individual only the computer used. Cookies enable the provision of a better experience of the School website. IFSM uses cookies to track user behaviour, improve navigation. We do not use cookies which have a high impact on your privacy and will regularly review the use of cookies on our site to protect your privacy. In common with many organisations, International Film School Mauritius uses ‘Google Analytics’ a web analytics service provided by Google Inc. to enable the School to analyse how our website is used. This means that information about the use of our website may be transmitted to Google Inc. Users of the most popular web browsers can install a browser add-on which prevents information being transferred to Google, see: http://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout
Purpose of Data Collection and Processing
IFSM needs to hold and process personal data about you for a number of administrative and statutory purposes and to ensure both parties can meet their contractual obligations, namely:
To process applications submitted for any of the programmes listed in section 2 as per the IFSM Admissions Policy;
- To engage with you at any stage of the application process;
- To support you throughout the application process;
- To verify documentation and certificates submitted by you as part of the application process;
- To assure, maintain and enhance admissions standards;
- To maintain your applicant record;
- To ensure international applicants meet the requirements of PIO Mauritius
- To administer your finances, including, but not limited to tuition fees, bursaries and scholarships;
- To administer bursary and scholarship applications;
- To manage queries, complaints and appeals;
- To monitor its commitment to widening participation;
- To carry out audits (both internally and externally) to ensure compliance with our statutory, regulatory and legal obligations;
- To ensure we can fulfil our statutory, regulatory and legal obligations.
Who Has Access to Your Data and How Is It Shared?
Access to your data in our databases and systems is limited to International Film School Mauritius employees. IFSM does not share your data with any third parties until after you have received an offer. Some of your data will also be processed and shared anonymously in order for IFSM to meet its statutory requirements, because it is in the public interest or because it is required for a third party’s legitimate interest. International Film School Mauritius does not sell data your data to third parties. IFSM also does not share your data with third parties for marketing purposes.
Sharing Your Data with Other Students
We share limited personal information of students with other students via our Virtual Learning
Environment. This is limited to:
- First and last name;
- International Film School Mauritius email address;
- Course number;
- Course unit or group
Sharing Your Data with the University Partner
In order to meet the requirements of our partnership agreements with the School partners and for you to be considered for a qualification, we share your personal information with the school partner. More specifically, after enrolling with the International Film School Mauritius, we will share the following with the school partner:
- Your full name;
- Programme of study;
- Course start date;
- Anticipated course end date;
- Mode of attendance;
- Coursework, assessment forms, grades, module results and course outcomes;
- Gender;
- Date of birth;
- Home address;
- Correspondence address;
- International Film School Mauritius email address;
- Phone and/or mobile number;
- Ethnicity;
- Nationality;
- Disabilities
Sharing Your Data with Other Third Parties
Further, we also share some of your personal information with third parties involved in your education, including visiting lecturers, insurers and external facilities used for teaching and learning. Some of your data will also be processed and shared in order for International Film School Mauritius to meet its statutory requirements, because it is in the public interest or because it is required for a third party’s interest. In this context, your personal data may be processed and shared as follows:
- To provide you with educational and academic services, including your graduation and related ceremonies;
- To ensure academic standards are maintained by sharing assessed coursework with External Examiners and the partner school;
- To monitor International Film School Mauritius’s performance as a higher education provider;
- To improve and enhance the management of the International Film School Mauritius;
- To monitor and promote equality and diversity;
- To seek legal advice;
- To recover money owed to us;
- For fundraising purposes.
The following personal information may be shared with third parties for the purposes listed above:
- Your full name;
- Your International Film School Mauritius email address;
- Your course number;
- Your student number;
- Your coursework (both written and practical), feedback forms, grade, module and course outcomes;
- Anonymised equal opportunities monitoring data;
- Anonymised feedback given by you to International Film School Mauritius.
Some of your data will also be processed and shared anonymously in order for International Film School Mauritius to meet its statutory requirements, because it is in the public interest or because it is required for a third party’s legitimate interest. Additional information may be shared with third parties in cases where we need to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
