Anria Kotze
Anria is an MFA graduate from AFDA and up to recent, pursued work in higher education with the focus on grooming young creatives and entrepreneurs within the creative economy.
She was program lead of the Higher Certificate courses at AFDA, Cape Town from 2018 to 2021 and it was here where she realised her passion for youth development. Her mentorship programme provides support and career opportunities for graduates by connecting them with relevant companies within the industry. Here they can grow their careers under the guidance and mentorship of industry specialists.
With a career spanning over 15 years, Anria has worn many hats within the creative industry. In 2006 after completing her degree in Audiovisual communication and production management (University of Johannesburg), she started working in the industry as an assistant post producer for Riot Post Production created by heavyweights, Kate Grosso and Gordon Midgley. Here she had the opportunity to work with bluechip clients like BMW, MTN, Nando’s, Lexus and SAB and some of the biggest commercial production companies and Ad Agencies in South Africa.
In 2008 she was approached by Urban Brew Studios (now part of the Kagiso Media Group), to join the production team launching Southern Sudan’s first broadcast television channel. Here she was one of the content producers responsible for overseeing 40 hours of weekly, locally produced Sudanese programming. She also assisted in the training of the Sudanese production team. From here on Anria worked as production manager and line producer on various long and short format programming including shows like The Axe Sweet Life Show hosted by Trevor Noah, SAFTA-winning reality gameshow, Kom Ons Karaoke produced for KykNet, What if Tonight’s your Night, Vodacom’s Yebo Millionaires as well as other branded content and advertiser funded programming for both local and international broadcasters.
After working at Urban Brew Studios for close to 7 years, Anria left to fill the role of Executive Producer and General Manager at Black Envelope Films, a young up-and-coming commercials and animation production company who were busy making waves in the industry. She produced the award-winning TV commercial for SABC Radio and Umholobo Wenene FM that won a Bronze Loerie Award in 2016. She also produced branded content and television commercials for beauty brand AMKA, Standard Bank, DSTV, SAB Castle Beer, Mahindra and Afrisam, to name but a few. After moving to Cape Town in 2017, she returned briefly to broadcast television and became Line Producer at Okuhle Media of the daily Live Youth Show, produced for SABC, ‘Hectic 9-nine’. She also helped launched its sister show for SABC 3, ’Hectic on 3’. The show was nominated for 2 SAFTA Awards in it’s first year of broadcast.
