The Eastern Indian Ocean

Mauritius is part of the Eastern Indian Ocean group of islands, which include Madagascar, Mayotte, Comoros, the Maldives, Seychelles, and Reunion.

Each island country has its unique stories, experiences, and creative communities, along with sometimes embryonic desires to build their own filmmaking capacity. All suffer from great limitations in physical resources, skills, and connections.

At present, there are no other film schools across the Eastern Indian Ocean. IFSM plans to become a centre of learning for screen arts across the region, training students based on local needs and offering resources and opportunities to filmmakers and aspiring screen professionals from our neighboring states.
