Documentary Filmmaking

Those students interested in documentary filmmaking will be specifically tutored in this genre and how it differs from fiction filmmaking. We will explore how to prepare and write a documentary script, how to research and gain access to one’s subject matter, and the importance of editing in the process.
The course will cover the essence of a point of view in the storytelling of a documentary. We will explore the difference between subjective and objective storytelling in documentary filmmaking.
Students will make a short documentary of between 3 and 5 minutes.
Each Course or module will be two weeks in length.
THEORY
The 1st week will involve an introduction to the theory with regards each specific module.
PRACTICE
The 2nd week will involve the physical production of a 3-minute film, by students organized in teams, which will be conceived, prepared, filmed and edited by themselves.
MENTORING
- These films and students will be mentored by the Tutors;
- Students will be encouraged to build up a body of work, both during and after their courses.
- Students will be encouraged to specialize from the beginning.
- And to form creative teams where they will learn to work in groups.
